A woman tries to remember her forgotten memories by going through old photographs. As she goes deep into her memories, she gets even more confused about her past.

Hi Elif thank you for talking to TNC, how are you holding up during these very strange times?

Unfortunately, it’s been really tough at the beginning of the pandemic to find my way to deal with the whole situation. However, revisiting my favourite films and spending time with the family helped a lot. I’ve had lots of free time to focus on my own projects.

This kept me fresh and sane.

Has this time offered you any creative inspiration?

I also get involved with a Youtube channel as an executive producer. Honestly, it did more than I ever expected to. I’ve written and directed two experimental shorts during this period. I've learned being productive in life, no matter what is going on, helps you physically and mentally to go through tough times.

Congratulations on having your film selected for the 3rd Papaya Rocks Film Festival, what does it mean to you to be part of such an amazing lineup of short films?

This is very exciting. I'm really happy to get involved with such a wonderful festival. And it's so good to be part of an incredible film selection.

Can you tell me a little bit about your film, how did this film come about? 

Actually, I always keen on memories and how we remember them. There is always something obscure about them. Diseases such as dementia and Alzheimer's causes such memory loss that is creating agony for the ones who can’t remember as well as for the ones who can. I wanted to see how this kind of melancholic experience is really like from the perfective of a mother-daughter relationship. 

What where the biggest challenges you faced brining your film to life? 

As a first-time director, I was afraid of having some difficulty expressing myself cor- rectly and clearly to my cast and crew, however, they made this process incredibly easy for me. Working with child actors was quite a challenge, especially with a baby. However, we connected in a short time with my child actors and they let me create a trustworthy and fun space to work. 

Looking back is there anything you would have done differently on this film?

I probably would work more on the script and I would have a broader crew.

Where did your passion for filmmaking come from?

I always enjoyed watching films. However since as a small kid I was always quite curious about the behind-the-scenes of a film set. As I grow up this curiosity turned into a desire to make my own films.

What has been some of the best advice you’ve been give?

It’s not personal advice to me but, I've heard this from Stephen Sondheim song that "stop worrying if your vision Is new and let others make that decision". I think it's great advice to see your own work nakedly and to move on freely. Also “other people’s success is not your failure” is great advice as well.

Should filmmakers continue to push the boundaries of the films and stories they want to tell?

Of course, they should. The more we push the farther we can go. Cinema had has changed reality many times with its fearless courage. We need continue to make unheard voices to be heard, we need to make invisible voices become visible.

Do you have any tips or advice you would offer a fellow filmmaker?

And finally, what do you hope people will take away from your film?

I hope they enjoy it first. Also I like people to look at their own memories and relation- ships with their loved ones and reconsider the small moments of their life. Small moments are the most important. We live them too fast to think about. I believe my film can create a place to look at those memories from a safe distance.

I think anyone who wants to make a film needs to go for it. Hesitation is the most dangerous position for a process of creation. I believe the right moment is the moment that you start.
